Massively parallel whole transcriptome sequencing, commonly referred to as RNA-Seq, is quickly replacing microarrays as the technology of choice for performing gene expression profiling due to its wider dynamic range and digital quantitation capabilities. However, accurate estimation of expression levels and idenification of novel transcripts from RNA-Seq data remains challenging due to the short read length delivered by current sequencing technologies. The goal of this collaborative project with bioinformatics researchers from Life Technologies is to develop robust software tools (both in terms of scalability and accuracy) for transcriptome sequencing data analysis that can be integrated within the Bioscope framework.
