The Fall 2007 programming contest, sponsored by Hartford Investment Managemet, took place on Sunday, Oct. 7, in the ITE building learning center. Dennis O'Flaherty, Justin DeMaris, and Sanjiv Dinakar placed on top 3 positions and will represent UCONN at the Northeast North America Regional ACM ICPC, Western New England site on Oct. 20, 2007. Eligibility:All part-time and full-time UCONN students can participate.
Programming languages: C, C++, or Java (JDK 1.5.0). You must use extensions ".c", ".cpp", or ".java" to indicate the language used.
Input: Unless otherwise specified, the input should be read from the standard input using the exact format described in the problem statement.
Output: the output should be written to the standard output in the exact format described in the problem statement.
Help materials: You can bring with you any printed materials, including books on programming languages, algorithms, math, geometry, graphics. You must not use any on-line material or help system on the web or the computer.
Ranking: each contestant who solves at least one problem will be ranked:

first by number of problems solved
second by total elapsed time to each solution plus a 20 minute penalty per rejected submission for problems that are eventually solved, and
third by fewest number of rejected submissions (only for problems that are eventually solved)

Registration: You must register for the contest at http://dna.engr.uconn.edu/~contest/cgi-bin/execute?register. A password will be sent to you by e-mail. The login page is at http://dna.engr.uconn.edu/~contest/cgi-bin/execute?team.
Programming environment: you can develop your solutions using your favorite editor and programming environment; once a solution is complete you upload the source file to the system. The system then compiles and executes your program on a number of data sets (not made available to the contestants) and notifies the contestant of the result (solution accepted, runtime exceeded, incorrect output, etc.)
Practice contests: Practice contests can be accessed from the above login page. You are encouraged to register for the practice contests and submit solutions to get familiar with the system.
Problems or Questions? If you have trouble registering please send e-mail to contest@dna.engr.uconn.edu. For problem clarifications use the "Ask" button on the contest website; all clarification requests and their answers can be viewed during the contest under the "Questions" header.

Read all problems before you start solving any of them. Solve easy problems first!
Read the problem carefully and make sure you understand all details.
Make sure to format the output correctly, the automated judging system will reject your solution even if it has a single extra blank or newline.
Don't get stuck on one problem for too long; if you feel you aren't making progress, try another one.
